I’m really sorry for not updating in a long time again, but I haven’t been able to go at my friend’s in some weeks, and I bet you know the reason: husband By the way, my life has been pretty boring and ordinary, so I don’t have a lot to update you with. Though, as I promised, I will tell you something about my world, Bajor, and its traditions. I will try to make these cultural entries regular, so that they figure in each new posts I write
Gratitude Festival
This is an annual celebration on my planet, and it is of great importance to us. It is also known as the Peldor Festival, and it has been dated 17600 BC (human datation), thus being one of the most ancient Bajoran feasts. During this festival, Bajoran people write their problems on renewal scrolls which are later burned, together with Bateret leaves, symbolically meaning for troubles to be turn to ashes, no longer afflicting our lives. The presider of the Festival pronounces the words: “Tesra Peldor impatri bren. Bentel vetan ullon sten..” (translation: We happily accept this gift of joy. May the Prophets guide us for another year), then we greet each other with the traditional greeting “Peldor Joi” (translation: happy Gratitude Festival).
The picture I posted here is a traditional Gratitude Festival banner, featuring graphic representations the sun and hands.
